Kinsmen Club of Yorkton Donates $220,000 for Arena Renovation Enhancing Community Facility

Yorkton, SK – January 27, 2025 – The Kinsmen Club of Yorkton is pleased to announce a significant donation to the City of Yorkton's Kinsmen Arena renovation project, a multi-million dollar initiative valued at $4.5 million. Specifically, this contribution from the Kinsmen will be directed toward the replacement of the arena's boards and glass, an integral part of the ongoing upgrades.  This contribution reflects the ongoing commitment of the Kinsmen Club to the community, reinforcing its long-standing history of supporting local initiatives. We are happy today to announce that donation in the amount of $220,000 to the City of Yorkton.   It has also been the Kinsmen Club’s hope that the old boards and glass could possibly be repurposed for use in a community outdoor rink, furthering its commitment to enhancing local recreational facilities.

Since its founding in 1945, the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton has been a pivotal force in the community, working tirelessly to improve the quality of life for residents through various charitable activities and projects, including its initial partnership funding for the Kinsmen Arena build in 1972, and subsequent renovation updates in 1976, 1985, 1986 and 87, and now again today.

The Kinsmen Arena has been home to our own tournament for 47 years and we know the economic spin off of every event hosted that brings someone from their community to our own.  It is important for the city, and its businesses.

Kin Canada's values of volunteering, inclusion, and the spirit of collaboration resonate deeply with the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton's history. The club’s work has ranged from funding major public infrastructure projects to supporting local youth programs, scholarships, and health initiatives.

The renovation of the Kinsmen Arena represents an important milestone for the City of Yorkton, ensuring the facility remains a key venue for sports and recreational activities for future generations. The Kinsmen Club’s donation to this area of the renovation aligns with its vision of supporting community infrastructure and creating spaces where residents can gather, participate in sports, and foster healthy lifestyles. The Kinsmen Arena has long been a cornerstone of Yorkton’s recreational offerings, and the club is proud to contribute to its continued success. With the completion of this renovation, the Kinsmen Arena will continue to be a vital community hub, supporting youth sports, public events, and recreational activities.

Ron Hanishewsky, President of the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton, stated, “We are proud and excited to contribute to this significant renovation project that will benefit so many members of our community and those that come here to visit and play. The replacement of the arena’s boards and glass is just one way we can ensure that this beloved facility continues to serve Yorkton for years to come. We are also hopeful that the repurposing of the old boards and glass will create new opportunities for outdoor recreation in our community, reflecting our ongoing commitment to youth and family-centered activities.”

The Kinsmen Club of Yorkton remains dedicated to building a better future for its residents, in line with Kin Canada's broader mission to improve the lives of Canadians and Serve the Community’s Greatest Need.
