Kinette Club

The Best Western Parkland Inn was the site, Saturday night, for the formation of this community's newest service club. Twenty-two Yorkton women were sworn in as the charter members of the Kinette Club of Yorkton, a volunteer service organization dedicated to bettering the community by promoting service, fellowship, family values and national pride. The new Kinette club is now a member of a national organization with clubs in 500 Canadian communities.

"Our first priority as a club will be to assist with the Kinsmen with their ongoing projects and continued growth for our own club" stated Lana Matechuk, the clubs first president. "A Kinette Club has been discussed for many years and we view it as an important step in the association.”

While the club has signed up twenty-two volunteers, it is looking for more individuals to share the fun. Meetings will be taking place the second Wednesday of each month at the Kinsmen Arena Blue Room at 7:00 pm. Interested ladies can contact Lana Matechuk or any Kinsmen or Kinette in the community.

Kin Canada is a national not-for-profit organization with 8700 members in 575 clubs in 500 communities. Since 1920 this all-Canadian organization has been helping people develop as leaders and serve their community's greatest need. National Projects include the fight against Cystic Fibrosis.

Leona Thorogood of Stettler, AB conducted as her first order of business in her year as Kin Canada National President presented the Charter certificate to president, Lana Matechuk. SK Governor, Ron Hanishewsky from Yorkton installed the newest club executive in front of 50 Kin members from around the province.

The Yorkton Kinsmen also held their annual awards night in conjunction with the evening festivities. Kevin Borden was the winner of the Kinsmen Rookie of the year award with Jeff Adrian presented with the Kinsmen of the Year award. Garth Malayney, Deputy Governor for Yorkton and area installed the Kinsmen Club of Yorkton executive.
